PHILIPPA MURRAY
Reviews
Zachary Devin and Phillipa
Murray were superb as Hugh and Mary, both singing in the strong,
impassioned but unshowy way that Vaughan Williams would have wanted.

It
was one of the finest soprano song recitals I have heard for a long
time...One difficulty I usually experience in listening to a soprano is
that, however beautiful the sound, I find it difficult to hear all the
words. With Philippa Murray, I could hear every word with exceptional
clarity and excellent diction, but the tonal qualities of her voice
remained beautiful, even more so at the extremities of her range. When
she sang high and loud, if anything her voice was even more engaging:
where so often with other singers the voice sounds strained. When she
sang softly there was no loss of clarity or tone. She was so expressive
too. Her dramatising of each song’s words added to the enjoyment of what
she was communicating, as she matched this with an expressiveness of
mood and meaning in her voice....it was very fine singing.
